Heart inside thorns ...
Scientific name: Carduus onopordioides
Caucasian cotton thistle is a biennial herb 20-25 cm tall. Stem are prominently winged with triangular lance shaped, stoutly spined lobs. Stem leaves are pinnately cut or lobed. Stalks carrying the flower heads are upto 5 cm, strongly spiny winged. Florets are purplish-pink, 1.5 to 1.9 cm. I took this photo on my way to Coonoor, somewhere near Ooty on 30th November, 2010.
