Yellow ginger lily or cream lily is a perennial herb with leafy shoots growing upto 2 m. It is found in eastern Himalayas from 1200-2300 m altitute. Rhizomes are 3 cm in dia, branched and fragrant. Leaves are oblong to lance shaped, 20-45 cm long, 4-10 cm wide. Flowers are fragrant and borne in erect inflorescence. Flowers and anthers are pale yellow in colour. I have seen this in many home gardens. One day on 29th August 2011 my colleague took me to his brothers home just opposite to the institute to show me some plants and there i took this photograph. I dedicate this flower to his good hart.
Box leaved barleria is a shrub 5-6 ft. tall with strong spines under the leaves. Purple blue flowers are produced in whorls towards the upper part of the stem. Leaves are 8-16 mm long. The plant is seen growing all around Mysore. This flower was shot on 21st September, 2011 nearby the home where i was staying.
The hairy Indian mallow is a perennial herb grows to a height of 2.5 m tall. Has a sticky yellow to orange basally swollen glandular hairs. Leaves are alternate and simple. Flowers are solitary and formed in leaf axils and bisexual, having five petals. Petals are yellow to bright orange in colour. I took this photograph on 21st Steptember 2011 while on my walking stroll.
Native to India, this tropical fast growing spiny shrub grows upright and bears bright yellow bell shaped flowers, which are borne on short terminal racemes. The plant is an erect, branched one, growing upto 8 m. Some stout spines are visible on the bark and branches. I was surprised to see this plant in Mysore, on my way to Institute, as the same is there in my native village, which i have seen since my childhood. To my astonishment, that village plant still remains on the edge of an irrigation canal! This photograph was taken in Mysore on 11th September, 2011.
Scientific name: Malvaviscus arboreus var. arboreus
Sleeping hibiscus, Ladies teardrop, Turk's cap or Firecracker hibiscus is a shrub from tripical regions of Mexico. It looks like an unopened hibiscus flower. It is a spreading shrub 2-3 m high. Leaves are densely clothed in velvety hairs. Flowers are borne solitary in leaf axils and are of 2-3 inches long. In my childhood i wondered about this plant why it is never opening and i was sad that it is falling off without ever showing the world! This photograph i took on 6th September 2011 in the terrace of my friends' home.. a lot of thanks to him.

Scientific name: Plumbago auriculata
Blue plumbago or cape leadwort is an evergreen shrub with whil like semy woody-stems. It is Native to South Africa and grows very fast and reaches to a height of 2 m. The leaves are spirally arranged. The light blue flowers are borne in rounded terminal clusters. The flowers are with long tubes, expanding into five petals. It blooms all along the year. This photograph was taken on 11th September, 2011 at a public park near district court, Mysore.
Long leaved Alyce clover is a small herb. This is found in India and can be seen growing in the wild among other plants in the open. Inflorescence is dense and spicate raceme. Bracts are ovate and pointed. They flower in pairs, blooming from the base of the spike, upwards. Standard petal is yellow, flushed with red. Weel and keel are dark pink.
