Native to Eastern Africa, naturalized around the world. A sweet creeper with a dark maroon or purplish black inner tube to add the beauty. Ideal for hanging pots, arches, pillars, trellis and even as a ground cover. While working at Palakkad (Kerala), i brought one plant from Yelagiri Hills (Tamil Nadu) in 1993 and nurtured on a polythene bag. On a night while inspecting to observe its growth, i stumbled upon a soft object and moved to the light. To my surprise it was a baby viper calmly coiled at the base! Now, years later, i enjoy the profuse flowering just outside my lab in Mysore (Karnataka). While relishing the beauty, i couldn't resist but snap it on a rainy day.
Found growing all over the temperate world. A humble perennial herb with vibrant yellow flowers. On maturation, the flower turns into a fluffy ball of seeds - a treat to the eyes. A herbal remedy for problems with gall bladder, liver, diabetes and loss of appetite. The flower was following me since 1993, when i first noticed it in Coonoor and then in Dehradun in 2001. I could capture into a frame on 1 Dec. 2010 on a way side at a hill slope at Coonoor.
Native to Transvaal, South Africa. Very popular and decorative garden plant spread across the world. Flowers come in a number of vibrant colours and are wonderful in raising the spirit of a person. Symbolize innocence, purity and cheerfulness. This picture was taken amidst an official engagement at a silkfarm in Mysore, in 2011 summer.
Scientific name: Euphorbia milii Supposed to be the crown of thorn placed on the head of Christ at the time of crucification. The thorn depicts the fall and struggle.. but the flowers represent the hope, which leads the mankind forward. Though native to Madagascar, varieties of this plant with different hues adore the gardens across the world. This was photographed at Brindavan Gardens of Krishnaraja Sagar Dam, Mandya District, Karnataka.
A weed, but a treat to the beholder's eyes! It is an invasive weed which overpowers the local plants and establishes well. Native to American tropics and extensively got introduced all over the world as an ornamental plant. The flower is attracted by a large number of butterflies and black pearl like seeds are disbursed by birds. This picture was captured on a rainy morning at the fence of Sims Park, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, India.
Love in a mist ... passionately lovable plant. I have fond remembrance of them because as a school boy in southern Kerala, its floral structure and mesmarising colour patterns have amused me. Many years later, steered by my friend, i found this sweet vine on my walking stroll on Mysore soil, calling my attention to fall in love again. Lucky if you are a morning walker, as it opens early in the morning and closes its heart before thickening of the sun beam.
