The butterfly tree or the purple orchid tree is an exotic tropical tree that bloom over a long period of time. The orchid like flowers makes it a favourite among plant lovers. When in bloom it is a wonderful sight to watch the beauty of this tree. The petals of purple orchid tree are narrow and do not overlap. As part of social forestry, this tree was planted all along highways, small roads and streets in South Indian states. Even this plant is one such in my street at Mysore, where i was staying earlier.
